Sheffield International Venues (SIV) has been propelled into the TV spotlight this spring after staging a series of high profile events.
SIV, which operates one of the biggest concentrations of diverse international venues in Europe, welcomed BBC camera crews, celebrities and sports stars for the filming of ‘We are the Champions’.
The 70s kids TV classic was recreated at SIV’s Ponds Forge International Sports Centre by stars such as Tim Henman, Paddy McGuiness and Dame Kelly Holmes, who were joined by scores of Sheffield school children for the Sport Relief special.
Filming took place in the venue’s international sports hall and Olympic-sized swimming pool with 12 teams captured on camera taking part in fun competitions on dry land and in the water.
Ponds Forge and the English Institute of Sport – Sheffield (EIS Sheffield), which is also operated by SIV, were featured on BBC One earlier this month as part of an ‘Olympic Dreams’ programme following the likes of diver Tom Daley and world heptathlon champion Jess Ennis in their quest for 2012 success.
There was also a glowing endorsement for Ponds Forge from TV stars Justin Lee-Collins and James Corden on the popular Channel 5 programme the Good Times.
It follows the 2009 Sports Personality of the Year event, which was hosted by SIV at the Motorpoint Arena and screened live on BBC One.
