Jarvis Cocker Graduates at Sheffield City Hall

This year's Sheffield Hallam University Graduations, hosted by City Hall Sheffield brought over 40,000 people to the city over a two week period generating substantial economic benefit to the region.

As part of this year's celebration, Sheffield pop legend Jarvis Cocker received an honorary doctorate. Esteemed local singer songwriter Richard Hawley accepted the same award from Hallam University at the City Hall in 2008.

The former Pulp front man, aged 46, took to the stage in front of hundreds and said: "It is great to receive an honorary doctorate from a university in my home town and the fact that I have also studied at the university makes it extra special."

He also said "I am more used to the City Hall as a music venue, so seeing it filled with students in cap and gown is all a bit of a change."

The venue has hosted the ceremonies for over 20 years in the prestigious Irwin Mitchell Oval Hall auditorium.  Dominic Stokes, general manager of SIV Conferencing and Events and City Hall Sheffield, said: "Hallam University's graduations ceremonies combine to form the biggest business event of the year generating huge economic benefit for Sheffield.

"At SIV, we are developing a deserved reputation for the first-class delivery of off-site academic events and the majestic City Hall provides scholars and their families with a fitting venue for graduation celebrations."
