Event Information

RE:Inventing Business was the third business and economy summit held in Sheffield on 18 June 2009.  The event attracted a diverse line-up of high level contributors from the business community, with delegates and delegates and speakers from all parts of the UK and abroad.  Over 350 delegates attended including students from Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam Universities, business leaders, small to medium sized organisations and entrepreneurs.

Why Sheffield City Hall?

Having hosted the highly successful summit last year Sheffield City Hall is a tried and tested venue for the Chamber, and lessons have been learnt.  While the impressive Irwin Mitchell Oval Hall was the room of choice last year, it's 2000+ seating capacity  left delegates 'lost in the vast amount of space'.

This year the conference took place in the majestic and more accommodating Memorial Hall  with an exhibition and workshop area set up in the Ballroom.  Organisers found the Hall was better scaled for the event and due to the current economic climate they were keen to show they had taken this into consideration when choosing a venue.

Such prolific events require special attention to detail and the Chamber's organisers recognise the 'can do' attitude of the City Hall team.  When faced with challenging circumstances, they were on hand to offer solutions and alternatives which left the organisers feeling confident that the venue staff would endeavour to make the event a success.

Assistance provided by Sheffield City Hall:

  • Giving access to the event organisers the night before and first thing on the day of the event to allow ample time for event set up
  • Liaised directly with the AV company and dealt with their requirements, and were able to supply extra equipment and services when needed
  • At short notice, they were able to cater for an attendee who was a Coelic sufferer by offering a gluten free lunch option
  • Worked to a very small budget for catering options which they did 'exceptionally well'
  • Worked in a professional and helpful manner and were on site to ensure the event ran without problems

The Verdict

Nigel Tomlinson, Chief Executive of Sheffield Chamber of Commerce stated:

"My thanks go out to all staff at the City Hall for your help in making RE:Inventing Business such a success. Your support throughout the planning stages and during the event itself were very much appreciated, and helped make the day run smoothly. Sheffield Chamber of Commerce look forward to working with you again in the future. "
